Power Awareness Device

Getting Started Guide

Before You Get Started

Please do not plug in this device until directed to do so by the instructions.

Getting Started

Step 1: Have the following:

  • User id and password for your DTE customer account
  • WiFi network name and password

Your DTE customer account is what you will use to log into the DTE Power Awareness Device application.

Step 2: Download and Install

Download and install the DTE Power Awareness app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

After the app is installed, launch the app and login.

Step 3: Add Device

Start the process of adding your Power Awareness Device (PAD) to the meter.

Step 4: Scan and Plug In

Scan the QR code on the back of the PAD device. After scanning, plug the PAD into a wall socket close to your DTE meter that also has good cell reception.

Step 5: Join PAD Device

Please tap the “Join” or “Connect” option, allowing the phone to establish communication with the PAD. This may take a few minutes.

Step 6: Connect to WiFi

Join the PAD to your WiFi network by selecting your WiFi identifier from the list and entering in your WiFi password. This will take a few minutes as well.

Finishing up

The device will automatically connect to the meter and let you know when that process is complete. It may take up to 24 hours to bind to your meter, but it will most likely take less than 5 minutes. When it is done, the lights on the front of the device will turn green.

Troubleshooting

If you are unable to connect your PAD with the app:

The PAD most likely went into “sleep” mode because it wasn’t connected to the WiFi within 10 minutes of being plugged in.

Unplug it from the wall and wait until the lights turn off (this should take less than 10 minutes). At this point, plug the PAD back into the wall and try to connect again with the app.

If one or both lights do not turn solid green:

If the lights do not both turn green, either the device could not connect to the meter or the cell network.

If the Meter Light (left) does not turn solid green, then the device did not successfully connect to the meter.

Start by finding a socket closet to the meter and moving the PAD.

If Cellular Light (right) does not turn green, the device does not have the best connection to the cellular network. If the light is blinking red it was not able to connect at all. If the light is solid red, it has a very bad signal. If the light is solid yellow it has a poor signal. Start by finding a socket close to the meter that has a good cellular signal and move the PAD.

If the lights do not turn green after 10 minutes of being in the new location, please contact support.

If the device never finds the WiFi network:

Please check to ensure your wireless network supports 2.4GHz. The PAD will only connect to a 2.4GHz network.

If your network supports 2.4GHz, try moving the PAD close to the access point or use a WiFi extender. Moving the device away from the meter may interfere with the connection to the meter as well.

Factory resetting the device:

The button on the side of the device will reset the device and restart the add device process. Please do not reset the device unless instructed by support.
