Why DTE Energy Has the #1 Utility App

July 16, 2017

The number of U.S. customers using mobile apps to monitor their energy use more than doubled between 2013 and 2016. That sounds impressive, but this still only represents 17% of utility customers in the U.S. according to a study by Zpryme. One reason for the low turnout could be the fact that utilities are lagging in digital engagement. In fact, 60% do not offer an app today. Of the 40% that have a mobile presence, only half provide energy monitoring or management features.Out of the 100 largest utilities, DTE Energy has the #1 ranked mobile app. While most utility apps only allow users to pay bills, report outages, and view outage maps, DTE Insight also enables their 2,142,829 users to monitor energy usage and take actions to increase efficiency. More importantly, the monitoring is done in real-time. It reports energy consumption for your home literally every minute of the day.

In creating a real-time connection with energy usage, DTE Energy and Powerley have enabled an entirely new consumer relationship with energy. Not only does this result in energy savings of up to 10%, but it drives increased customer satisfaction.
